RESOURCE PACK – My Body Speeds: Early Interoception and Regulation Development

My Body Speeds is an early years resource pack that helps young children notice how their bodies feel from the inside and choose something that helps. Using three simple, memorable speeds, slow like a sleepy sloth, steady like a gliding swan and speedy like a zooming squirrel, children learn that every speed is OK and that noticing it is the first step to feeling ready. The pack gives practitioners a quick 2-3 minute check-in to use at arrival, after outdoor play or before carpet time, with simple language to ask, show, reassure, choose and notice again. Alongside it come child-friendly strategy cards for each speed, a worksheet where children can show how their body feels and what helps them, and a wall poster they can point to at any time. It’s a gentle, practical way to build early interoception and self-regulation in everyday routines, without trying to make every child “steady”.

Why we developed the RESOURCE PACK – My Body Speeds: Early Interoception and Regulation Development

Young children feel big sensations in their bodies long before they have the words to explain them, and noticing those signals from the inside is an early building block of self-regulation. We created My Body Speeds to give practitioners simple, playful language and a routine that fits into the early years day, so that children can say how their body feels and try something that helps. Our aim isn’t to make every child steady, but to help each child discover what works for them.
