Neurodivergent Burnout: Understanding the Science, Context and What Helps
In this Neuro Lab, Karla will explore current thinking around neurodivergent burnout, including how it is defined, how it may differ from traditional models of stress and occupational burnout, and what current research tells us about its prevalence and impact.
Together we will examine:
What neurodivergent burnout is (and isn’t)
How it differs from traditional burnout
The neuroscience of stress, executive function and cognitive load
What current research tells us
Evidence-informed approaches that may support wellbeing and recovery
Drawing on neuroscience, research and lived experience, Karla will explore the brain systems involved in stress regulation, executive function, emotional processing, cognitive load and recovery. The session will also consider environmental, relational and therapeutic factors that may support sustainable wellbeing.
Throughout, we will take a strengths-informed, neuroaffirmative and non-pathologising approach, recognising the role of context, masking, stress and lived experience in shaping outcomes.
Designed for professionals working across education, healthcare, mental health, coaching, therapy and leadership.
