VIDEO – What We Don’t See (Judgement & Executive Function)
What We Don’t See is a short animated video that shows, in about a minute, how quickly we judge behaviour and how much sits beneath it. It opens with three familiar comments (“He’s always late”, “She’s so annoying”, “Why can’t they just get started?”) and then looks again, linking each to the executive function skill that may be involved: time management, impulse control and task initiation. It explains executive functions as brain skills that help us plan, focus, manage emotions and get things done, and shows how judging without understanding can hurt a child’s confidence, friendships and sense of belonging, while stress makes those skills even harder to use. It ends with a simple, memorable shift, from “Why are they being difficult?” to “What might they be finding difficult?”, and the message: choose curiosity before judgement. Clearly captioned and easy to follow, it works as a quick opener for training sessions, parent talks, assemblies or staff meetings.
